Join Comox Valley Poet Laureate Natalie Nickerson in disturbing the public with bad poetry on the evening of World Bad Poetry Day: Friday August 18th, 2017.
Collect all the cliches you know and come prepared to make an embarrassing spectacle of yourself and to boo, hiss and laugh-out-loud as Natalie and other brave souls attempt to bore listeners to death and jangle nerves with their rebellious rhythms and downright vile verse.
Hideous prizes awarded to those whose poems provoke the audience to wince, jeer, taunt and otherwise disturb the peace.
Open mic runs from 5:30-7:30pm at the SummerNight Markets on Duncan Avenue in Downtown Courtenay, signup starts at 5pm. All ages welcome and encouraged to participate. If you're too shy to speak your poem there will be a laundry line to hang your poem out to dry... and tools for writing more on-the-spot.
In addition to the poetry celebrations, the SummerNight Market is pleased to welcome musical guests The Barn Dawgs, Ryks Davies between 5-8pm, and Sweet Papa Lowdown will close out the evening with live gypsy blues between 8-10:30pm!
There is also free tango lessons from 7-8pm with Comox Valley Tango collective, Qigong demonstrations, with Kimi Nakamura, early in the evening, and our weekly free raffle with great prizes!
And of course a diverse array of artists, crafters, creators, distributors, and inventors selling their wares directly. It's a new mix of products every week.
The SummerNight markets are a collaborative project between Comox Valley Arts, Your Regional Arts Council, and Downtown Courtenay Business Improvement Association, running every Friday night from 5pm til late in the evening - through to September 1. Plenty of downtown merchants and all the restaurants are open late, too! It's a fun new way to "do" downtown Courtenay and #experiencemore! Find the markets on facebook for all the current details & updates.
