L’Arche Comox Valley is pleased to invite the public to the opening of an exhibit at The Grotto on Thursday, April 4 from 1-3pm. Come meet some of the artists, have a look at their fantastic creations, and enjoy a drink or a snack from the Grotto menu. You'll also be able to enjoy the artworks throughout the month of April. The Grotto is located at 477 5th St, Courtenay.
The works were created by participants in the Art of Belonging program, which is offered by L’Arche Comox Valley each year. The artists are local residents from diverse backgrounds and skill levels living with and without disabilities. For the past 4 years, the Art of Belonging program has been led by artist-in-residence Dean Bauche, who brings his considerable gifts to the project of nurturing truly inclusive community. Over an 8-week period, the artists shared a process of self-reflection and creative exploration to produce unique works from found materials. The result is a collection of fanciful pieces, each of which embodies the warmth, humour, and curiosity of its maker.
L’Arche Comox Valley is a community of people with and without developmental disabilites sharing life together and celebrating the unique value of each person, revealing each other’s gifts and recognizing our need for one another. Through our studios at the I Belong Centre in Courtenay, we offer a variety of creative programs that are open to people of all ability levels.
