Pop-up galleries originated in New York City, where groups of like-minded artists got together to show their work in unorthodox spaces such as restaurants, coffee shops, empty store fronts and occasionally on vacant property. The idea has now been adopted by artists around the world.
Several Pop-up exhibitions have taken place on Vancouver Island in recent years. The next in this tradition will be The Mechanical Show, hosted by The Gatehouse Gallery & Coffeeclairs in Cumberland.
Nine of Vancouver Island’s most innovative artists have been invited to contribute works of art that move, wiggle, sing, dance or do anything mechanical. This is a show that will dazzle, perhaps confuse - but definitely entertain you.
Participating artists are Pat Acton, Roger Albert, Bill Friesen, Jeff Hartbower, Barb Hutson, Marci Katz, Carolyn Kirk-Albert, Robert Moon, and Ed Varney.
The show is curated by Bill Friesen.
The exhibition will run from Saturday October 1st through Sunday October 30th.
Gallery Hours are 1:00 pm to 9:30 pm Saturdays and Sundays, and 4:00 pm to 9:30 pm on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Please note the gallery is closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
Please join us for the opening celebration on Saturday October 1st at 5:00 pm. Refreshments will be available and the artists will be present.
The Gatehouse Gallery & Coffeeclairs is located at 3273 Third Street in Cumberland.
