Give a gift of films and treat yourself to savings before Dec. 31st with Early Bird passes to the 28th World Community Film Festival to be held Feb. 1 and 2, 2019. Over 30 of the most inspiring documentaries from Canada and abroad cover a myriad of social and environmental justice topics. Many of the uplifting and entertaining films have received rave reviews and awards.

Programmers are excited to share the opening night feature, Gurrumul, featuring indigenous artist Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu, one of the most important and acclaimed voices to ever come out of Australia. Some of his songs are adapted from music and stories up to 10,000 years old. This is a portrait of an artist on the brink of global reverence, and the struggles he and those closest to him face in balancing two distinct worlds. Audience Award, Perth Film Festival; Asia Pacific Screen Awards

Four downtown Courtenay venues offer film options on Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm with films about indigenous issues, human rights, music, environmental issues and resilience in communities around the world. Filmmakers will attend several screenings. Saturday afternoon check out the Family Films from 1:00 to 2:30.

Closing night films feature inspiring stories about the creativity and empowerment of women around the world.
