The Potters Place Gallery Feature Artists for December 2018
The Potters Place Gallery’s feature artists for the month of December are Island potters Mary Deveau and Linda Walton.
Mary is a clay sculptor as well as an abstract and impressionist painter. Mary is influenced by her surroundings with the sea and coastal shores inspiring her pieces. As a sculptor, she works in clay to create sea animals with expressive faces. She varies her glazes and firings to produce unique finishes for each of her pieces. Mary is a graduate of Emily Carr University. Her work is shown and sold in various galleries and at festivals throughout B.C. and Alberta. The Potters Place Gallery will be featuring her clay pieces as well as a selection of her coastal themed paintings.
From an early age Linda was a compulsive illustrator, filling sketchbooks and scraps of paper with drawings. Later, while pursuing drawing and painting at university, she was exposed to clay arts which lead to her combining pottery with her love of illustration. She loves nothing better than to create a body of work on the wheel and then to move on to their illustration. She works directly on raw clay with oxides and brushwork or uses underglaze pencils on bisqued clay ware. While she produces themed works, each piece is unique.
