Things are going to look a little different in Downtown Courtenay during the Wednesday Summer Street Markets in 2020.
On Wednesday afternoons you will still be able to shop at the Comox Valley Farmer’s Market in the same physically distant, controlled way that has been established for the Saturday Markets at the Comox Valley Exhibition grounds. CVFM will continue to adapt their approach to ensure you can get the necessary fresh food through pre-ordered online methods (cvfm.ca) and physically distanced shopping. Follow the Farmer’s Market at cvfm.ca, Facebook, Twitter or Instagram for the most up to date details.
New hours for this summer will be 4pm -7pm every Wednesday, starting June 17. Just an hour shorter, and in the same location on England Ave between 4th and 6th Streets.
Artisan vendors will be a different story. Comox Valley Arts has recognized the opportunity to take their vendors online. The way people like to engage with arts and crafts products lends itself less well to physically distant shopping. The steps and staff required to ensure the safety of guests, vendors, and staff – in accordance with Provincial Health Orders and WorksafeBC Guidelines – makes the event unsustainable at this time.
Our media-savvy team is creating a virtual arts & crafts shopping experience that can continue into the future and also compliment possible in-person marketplaces. We are finding ways to build this into a unique and engaging experience to echo the on-street version we all prefer. More information and vendor signup for this option will be available soon.
These changes are both bittersweet and exciting. Much pondering, scheming and research has led us to these decisions. We are keeping on top of developments and following health expert’s guidelines and it is our sincere hope that next summer, we can reinstate the full downtown weekly open-air markets you’re accustomed to… and more!
