Display Case Program at YVR

Every point of entry and exit at the Vancouver International Airport  (YVR), without exception, represents a gateway to British Columbia and Canada. Whether one is boarding an aircraft or going to the parking lot, a glimpse of the province’s cultural identity is on display.

YVR celebrates nature and culture in its thematic and interior finishing. It also is proud to feature what is created artistically in British Columbia. To compliment its permanent art collection, YVR has located display cases throughout the terminals’ departure gates to showcase the work of BC artists.  This rotating display program provides BC artists with the opportunity to exhibit and potentially sell their work to millions of local and international travellers; it also provides travellers with an opportunity to get a glimpse into BC’s vibrant visual arts community.

Display cases exhibit a broad range of original work: sculpture, painting, printmaking, photography, furniture design, industrial design, fashion design and a variety of other unique and hand made objects.  The works are rotated bi-annually throughout the terminal, providing travellers with a regularly changing exhibition, and artists with a broader audience.

It is YVR’s mandate that BC artists create all works displayed. Art works are sourced from individuals, galleries and institutions. We also proudly display works from the YVR Art Foundation’s Scholarship Program for BC First Nations Youth.

Artworks are loaned to YVR for a minimum of six months, but are typically kept for 12 to 18 months.  During the loan period, in order to gain the most exposure for your work, it will be rotated through 2 or more departure areas of the airport: International, Trans Border, Domestic and the South Terminal. The artwork is installed, maintained and handled by professional technicians and is insured while at YVR. Display cases contain signage indicating the artist’s name, title of the work, medium and artist’s contact information, such as email and website, for those seeking further information or to contact the artist or gallery.

Displays are changed throughout the year and submissions for consideration are accepted at anytime.  Please see “Submission Information” below for details on the display cases.

The program has proven to be a success for both YVR and the artists involved, and is a key component in YVR being named again in 2017 as the “Best Airport in North America” by Skytrax, for the eighth year in a row.  With over 24 million passengers travelling through YVR, your artwork will gain a broad new audience.

I hope you will consider participating in the Display Case Program at YVR.  Please feel free to forward this information to any artists you think may be interested.

If you have any questions, or would like to submit work for display, please email Rita Beiks - [email protected] - Please note that we receive many submissions and will not be able to respond to each one individually.  However, you will be contacted once an opportunity to display your work becomes available.
