Contemporary Art Show In Cumberland

An exciting exhibit of colourful,  contemporary  art will be featured at The [email protected] Church, opening on November 27, 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm.  Well known Comox Valley Artists Lucy Schappy and Patti DiDiomete are teaming up to brighten and lighten your spirits with their imaginative colours, forms and expression.

About the Artists

Patti DiDiomete’s interest in art began when she moved to Vancouver Island to pursue her counselling career.  She studied art at North Island College and mentored with several established local artists.  Her exploration of materials in clay, stone, metal, concrete, paint and canvas has resulted in the creation of sculpture and paintings which emphasize form and colour. Patti works intuitively and expressively. Her art is a continuous process of self-exploration.

Patti’s new work is more reflective and sensitive.  There is a softening of forms with colours that are muted and restrained.  The work is being reduced to simple forms that explore the more sensuous and mysterious complexities of nature, through a meditated “mark making” process.  The resulting work is delicate and raw and it exudes a quiet elegance.

Lucy Schappy moved to the Cumberland in 1991 where she bought her first home. She fell in love with the abundant and spectacular wildness and history of the place. Making art has long been her passion, taking her from her career as a dentist to being a full time artist. Ultimately her greatest interest had always been to develop her abstract work, to say something that has not yet been said with paint, and this she now does with flair and joy.

Bold, colorful and exuberant work is her offering to the world.  Included in this show are new works that pay tribute to the wild magic of the land where she finds beauty, inspiration and rejuvenation.
