On the evening of Thursday July 13 at 7pm, the Comox Valley Art Gallery will launch the work created by Canadian interdisciplinary artist Rita Mckeough. Mckeough has won numerous awards for her work including the Governor General’s Award for Visual and Media Arts in 2009. She has exhibited extensively in Canada and internationally, and is also an accomplished musician and educator. Rita has been in residence with CVAG since May 2017 preparing work that is site responsive titled: Veins, cul de sac and Listen that speaks to her deep concern for the effects of industrialism on the surrounding ecology.
The whole gallery has been transformed for an immersive experience in which to contemplate this serious topic. Rita’s approach invites the audience to consider what the natural world is asking us to listen to though a multi-media installation that includes robotics, sculptural elements, digital and sound components and humour.
The evening will include an artist talk and celebration.
